TAUGHT BY OBX U.S. COAST GUARD CERTIFIED INSTRUCTORS

Saturday February 14, 2026 – One Day Class

Enroll in the only boat safety course taught locally by Outer Banks U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certified Instructors. No need to fumble with online self-taught courses, no more guessing what is needed for the test. It’s one-and-done with this all-in-one-day classroom course.

It’s close by, too. This single-day class is held locally at the Southern Shores Fire Department. Learn what you need to pass the test for the North Carolina Boater Education Card. Plus, practical learning from Outer Banks U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarists who boat these local waters.

Do you need this card? Yes, if you:

  • Are a North Carolina boater,
  • Born on or after January 1, 1988, and
  • Operate a motorized watercraft of 10 HP or more.

If this is you, then you’re required to have a valid NC Boater Education Card on board.

If you were born prior to January 1, 1988, you still qualify to enroll in the safety class…it’s just not required. Certified safe boating is assurance that makes adventure on the water safer and enjoyable.
