Now Open! The Boat America Certified Safety Class, Saturday October 11th, 2025
Enroll in the only boat safety course taught locally by Outer Banks U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certified Instructors. No need to fumble with online self-
taught courses, no more guessing what is needed for the test. It’s one-and-done with this all-in-one-day classroom course.
It’s close by, too. This single-day class is held locally at the Southern Shores Fire
Department. Learn what you need to pass the test for the North Carolina
Boater Education Card. Plus, practical learning from Outer Banks U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliarists who boat these local waters.
Do you need this card? Yes, you do if you’re a North Carolina boater who was born on or
after January 1, 1988, and operate a motorized watercraft of 10 HP or more. If this is you,
then you’re required to have a valid NC Boater Education Card on board. If you were born
before January 1, 1988, you still qualify to enroll in the safety class…it’s just not required.
Safe boating is no accident.
Why choose the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary OBX Boat America Safety Class?
It’s taught by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Certified Instructors who boat these local waters.
Their insights are invaluable. You will get the required course material + exam all-in-one-
day. No more going back into that self-guided course that you can’t remember where you
left off. The material meets the North Carolina requirements. The exam is same day, too.
The NC Boater Education Card is valid for a lifetime.
