Observing miniature art with the naked eye is remarkable in itself. Miniature artists often create their little masterpieces looking through a magnifying lens. The details behind the brush strokes are striking. Did you know that miniature art is also enjoyed through sense of touch? Textured art pieces with mixed media, 3D effects, and miniature sculptures are popular. Let’s take a closer look behind the growing trend of textures in miniature art!
Tiny Textures Abound in Minis
Artists use textured media for a lot of reasons. They sometimes use it to imply a contextual theme. For example, a miniature artist forms tiny hardware tools for a piece with a theme about work in progress. Another reason artists incorporate texture is to achieve a 3D effect. It makes the art “pop out” and come alive. This is especially true with nature themed miniature art. We have many of these pieces in our 28th International Miniature Art Show.
Why are 3D natural scenes growing popular lately? It could be because people are craving the outdoors in a time when we have a lot more technology. And, miniature art provides this experience up close and personal – especially when it’s 3D!
Different Textures…All Beautiful!
Cozy is a miniature bronze sculpture of dachshunds by Joy Kroeger BecknerFrom quilts to paper, there are many textures that look wonderful (and adorable) as minis! Miniature sculptures are a special niche in the art world. It’s amazing how they tell a story all their own. Some artists make their sculptures with clay, while others are cast in bronze. Bronze sculptures undergo a time consuming process. Several required steps create the mold and the finished bronze product. A miniature bronze sculpture has the same detail and skill of any other fine sculpture. Only it fits in the palm of your hand…remarkable!
